DEARBORN HEIGHTS — Super Greenland Market has grown into a fixture in the Arab American community in Dearborn, and now, co-owner Jamal Koussan is hoping the new location on Beech Daly near Ford Road in Dearborn Heights will become a similar success story.

"I remember when I was working in Lansing, we had them cater one of our events and all the other state representatives and senators told me how great their food was," said Paletko, a former state rep.

"I've been telling them for seven or eight years now to move west to Dearborn Heights.

"We're very pleased to have them and this will be great for the other businesses in the area; they're a great bunch of guys, great family men."

The new Greenland Fruit Market, located in a spot that had been occupied for multiple decades by a Sav-Mor drug store, will feature fresh produce, halal meats including hand-carved lunch meats, and a full line of other groceries to the area including imported Middle Eastern specialty items.

The "Wild Wednesday" sales that are popular in Dearborn will also be featured, which Koussan says is a Super Greenland trademark.

"The Wednesday sales were our idea, everyone claims it but we have the proof," said Koussan, who is known for his charitable donations in Dearborn as well.

Koussan is excited to become a part of the Dearborn Heights business community with the new store.

"Ever since Mayor Paletko asked us to come we've been looking for a chance to invest in the city, so we're excited."
