Organizers cancel the 2013 Arab International Festival

DEARBORN-The American Arab Chamber of Commerce (AACC) announced that The Arab International Festival has been postponed for the summer of 2013. 
The news comes after talks were under-way between the AACC and the City of Dearborn over moving the location of the three-day even to Ford Woods Park, away from the normal location on Warren Avenue.

DETROIT — The Michigan Department of Civil Rights (MDCR) recently appointed Charles Schoder as the Civil Rights Specialist and Liaison to the Arab American Community, replacing former Civil Rights Specialist Leila Saba-Hanna, who after a car accident was unable to continue fulfilling her duties. 
Edsel Ford Basketball Coach re-hired following community objection

DEARBORN — Outrage erupted last week in the community when Dearborn residents learned that Edsel Ford High School Varsity Basketball Coach Ibrahim Baydoun was being replaced after a 17-year tenure as coach at the High School. 
200 immigrants naturalized at U.S. citizenship ceremony

DEARBORN — On Friday, May 9, over 200 immigrants were sworn in as US citizens during a ceremony, hosted by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Michigan at the Byblos Banquet Center. The newly naturalized citizens hailed from 55 different countries.

ROCHESTER — On May 9, Dr. Sam Fawaz, president of the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA), NAAMA board members and members at large met with the founding Dean of Oakland University’s William Beaumont School of Medicine (OU-WBSOM) Dr. Robert Folberg on the campus of Oakland University. 
Dearborn schools honored for environmental efforts

More than 35 public and private schools in Dearborn, including the City's three public high schools, earned a green status from Michigan Green Schools (MGS) in a ceremony on May 1.
