DETROIT — A new WXYZ-TV/Free Press poll shows that 58% of people oppose raising fuel taxes and vehicle registration fees to fund road and bridge improvements.
Those in favor voted at a 36% rate according to the poll. Among those opposed, 41% said they were strongly against it. The overall pool of respondents was 600 people from Jan. 21-25 and has a margin of error of plus or minus four points.
A recent $1.4 billion infrastructure bill introduced last week by Rep. Rick Olson includes the measures.
DETROIT — Gov. Rick Snyder's emergency manager appointments for cash-strapped school districts and cities have drawn the ire of numerous organizations and leaders who say they're unconstitutional.
But a new poll says that voters are fairly divided on the issue. About 45 percent of state voters said they would vote to repeal the law if they could while 42 percent said they would keep it.
The poll was conducted by Lansing-based EPIC-MRA of 600 voters for the Detroit Free Press and WXYZ-TV, and has a plus or minus margin of error of four percentage points.
A total of 50 percent say Michigan should negotiate with Detroit officials instead of appointing a manager, which received 31 percent in the polls in favor.
