Preliminary examination begins for death of local Dearborn man

DEARBORN — On Tuesday at the 19th District Court, the preliminary examination for Charles Jackson, 26, Zelda Taylor, 28, Iashia Knox, 28, and Kristen Holmes, 28 was held in front of Judge Mark Somers, revealing some much awaited details about the death of 45-year old local man Hassan Jaber, who was found dead in his home in July.  The four alleged suspects had been detained and held at the Wayne County Jail without bond since their arrests were made in late July. 

 

Dearborn businessman, local attorney convicted of bank fraud, bribery charges

DEARBORN — Hussein "Sam" Nazzal, a Dearborn businessman, and Edward A. Schneider, a local attorney, were both found guilty this week by a federal jury for multiple counts of fraud and commercial bribery.
Man charged with felonious assault in connection to knife altercation at Mango’s Cafe

DEARBORN— Zachary Teeters, a 26 year-old Dearborn man, was arraigned at the 19th District Court Mar. 1 on one count of felonious assault.  Teeters allegedly threatened an employee of a local sub shop with a knife at about 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 27.  The incident occurred at Mango’s Café here. 
Dearborn man charged with bank fraud

DEARBORN - Radwan Khazaal (46), of Dearborn was arraigned Monday, Feb. 11 in U.S. District Court in Detroit on a one-count indictment for conspiracy to commit bank fraud.  Magistrate Judge Mark Randon ordered the release of Khazaal on a $10,000 unsecured bond with conditions including that he does not act as a fiduciary for a bank or a title company.  
Man arrested in connection to multiple lottery ticket thefts

DEARBORN — On Jan. 6 at approximately 8 p.m. Eric Joseph Demarte, an Ohio resident, was arrested for the multiple lottery ticket thefts which occurred at the Dearborn Liquor, Sunoco Gas Station, 7-11 and Joseph’s Market in the City of Dearborn. On January 09, 2013, the Wayne County Prosecutors Office charged Demarte with Felony and Misdemeanor Charges, including larceny from a building and 1st  Degree and 2nd Degree Retail Fraud for the lottery ticket thefts at Dearborn Liquor and the Sunoco Gas Station.  
Dr. Hussein Awada, brother of Turkia Mullin faces federal charges

DETROIT— Turkia Mullin’s brother, Dr. Hussein Awada is facing federal charges of dealing prescription drugs from his Warren medical practice, and conspiracy to commit health care fraud. Turkia Mullin attracted media attention for her involvement in the Wayne County Severance Scandal more than one year ago. 
Two charged and arrested for burglary

DEARBORN— On Friday Dec. 7 at approximately 1 a.m. Dearborn officers responded to the All Wireless cell phone store located on the city’s east side on report of a burglary in progress.  Officers arrived and found the front door glass broken and a glass display case inside the store damaged.  The suspects were no longer at the store.  Responding officers viewed the store’s video surveillance which provided a physical and clothing description of the perpetrator.  The video also revealed a number of cell phones were stolen.
