Three men arrested for food stamp fraud; abuse still an ongoing issue in community

DETROIT — Last week three Arab men from the Detroit area were charged with felony counts amounting to $262,000 in food stamp fraud operations at Schaefer Dollar Mania, a store located on Schaefer Rd in the west side of Detroit. This news echoes a story The Arab American News ran last month regarding Food Stamp fraud in the local community.

HIGHLAND PARK – A January 18 fatal shooting of 59-year-old Citgo gas station clerk Hassan Hussein of Dearborn has resulted in the arrests of two men, police said this past weekend.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS — A suspect has finally been arraigned for the string of burglaries that have occurred in both the West Dearborn and Dearborn Heights areas over the last four months, after Dearborn Heights Police caught the intruder in action when they received a tip from a local neighbor.

DETROIT – Fadi Hassan Faraj, the 35-year-old man accused of killing 23-year-old Hassan Zeidan after a pickup basketball game in Dearborn this past summer, had his first-degree murder case dismissed Tuesday morning by Third Circuit Court Judge Carole Youngblood, leading to a refiling of the case and the prolonging of what has already been an agonizing wait for the Zeidan family.
