Al Jazeera releases Wikileaks-style "Palestine Papers"
Sunday, 01.23.2011, 05:43pm

Landmark new documents released by Al Jazeera show that the Palestinian Authority (PA), led by chief negotiator Saeb Erekat, offered "The biggest Yerushalayim" ever in conceding key parts of East Jerusalem during U.S.-brokered negotiations.

More of the 1,600 documents obtained describing the inner workings of a decade of negotiations are expected to be released later as well.

The Palestine Papers were a top trending Twitter topic worldwide for parts of Sunday afternoon, Jan. 23, and they were among the top five in the U.S. until around 5 p.m. ET when the topic quickly disappeared from the feed, although chatter about the NFL's Bears-Packers NFC Championship game started to heat up at the same time and took up several trending topic spots.

The papers remained a hot topic in places like the United Kingdom and other areas of Europe for a little while longer, however.
