TROY — The Arab American and Chaldean Council, a nonprofit human service organization serving southeast Michigan, is hosting its annual Christmas distribution event. On Friday, Dec. 23 at noon, the organization will distribute 1,900 ready-to-eat prepackaged meals, gift bags and more than 500 coats to those in need at its Youth Center in Detroit at 62 W. Seven Mile Road.

The meals will include chicken, green beans, potatoes and a roll. Gifts bags will provide dessert and other items.

"Too many men, women and children are unfortunately left hungry and in the cold during the winter months," said Dr. Haifa Fakhouri, president and CEO of the Arab American and Chaldean Council. "These meals, groceries and coats will go to numerous deserving individuals and families, including Syrian
refugees."

Midwest Recycling is donating 400 coats and Forgotten Harvest is providing the meals and gift bags.

This event is being held in addition to ACC's Pantry of Plenty Program, a bi-weekly food distribution program made possible through a partnership with Forgotten Harvest. Participating families receive approximately 60 pounds of fresh food items per event.
