TURKEY - One of the Lebanese citizens killed in a New Year’s Eve attack on a nightclub in Turkey has garnered massive attention for the messages she had been posting on her Facebook page in the months leading up to her death.

Rita Chami, 26, who was one of the 39 victims at the Istanbul nightclub, was deeply heartbroken over the loss of her mother to cancer just five months before.

Chami’s Facebook timeline became solely dedicated to the agony she had suffered following her mom’s passing in July.

Her Facebook timeline showed that week after week, she had been commemorating her mother.

In her final Facebook status where she announced she was heading to Turkey, she stated that if anything were to go wrong, she would be following in her mom’s footsteps. “Hopefully we will have fun [in Turkey], worst case scenario is that I will die in a blast and follow my mum.”

Her brokenhearted father told Lebanon’s MTV: “I tried to stop her [from going to Turkey] but she decided to go with her friends.”

Rita also posted on her Facebook a poem in Arabic about the dead and whether “they are always there ... always among us and around us.”

Cham, who studied at Lebanon’s American University of Science and Technology, reportedly died alongside her friend Elias Wardini.
