DEARBORN— On Friday Jan. 27, two passersby tackled and detained an alleged purse snatcher until police reached the scene and arrested him.
Dearborn police said in a press release the suspected robbery took place at around 9 a.m. in the area of Warren Avenue and Steadman.
The victim of the theft was a 57-year-old Detroit woman, who was walking on Warren. The statement said, Dandre Reginald-Devonn Heard, 27, “forcibly took her purse from her.”
Two men witnessed it and immediately tackled Heard and held him down until officers arrived.
The victim was not injured and found her purse in an alley nearby.
Heard faces a larceny charge. He was arraigned by Magistrate Meletios Golematis of Dearborn’s 34th District Court.
He set Heard’s bond at $1,000 cash-or-surety. A probable cause conference is set for Feb. 10 at 9 a.m., and a preliminary exam is set for Feb. 17 at 9 a.m.
“Crimes of this nature will not be tolerated in Dearborn,” Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad stated. “These brazen acts destroy citizen’s quality of life and, while I do not encourage witnesses to detain suspects, I commend these two for assisting a citizen in need.”
