
DEARBORN — The City of Dearborn maintains a zero tolerance policy regarding the sale and use of illegal, unsafe fireworks.
Dearborn ordinance prohibits the sale and use of illegal fireworks, and even unsafe use of legal fireworks. Police officers are aggressively enforcing these rules, particularly as Independence Day approaches, in order to prevent injuries and property damage.
The public is strongly encouraged to avoid personal fireworks. Instead, attend a professionally-produced fireworks display like the ones offered at Camp Dearborn’s Beach Bash on June 28, Greenfield Village on July 2-5 and at Dearborn’s Homecoming festival on Aug. 2 and 3.
Police officers will respond to fireworks complaints. Adults found to be violating the city’s fireworks ordinances will be ticketed. Parents whose minor children are found to be violating fireworks ordinance may also be ticketed under the city’s parental responsibility ordinance.

Police officers and the Fire Marshal’s Office will be visiting retail stores throughout Dearborn. Citations will be issued to vendors who are selling illegal fireworks. Illegal fireworks will be confiscated. Business owners are reminded that it is their responsibility to verify that the fireworks they are selling are legal.
Many common fireworks are illegal in the state of Michigan and Dearborn. If a novelty device makes a loud bang, leaves the ground or spins or twirls, it is illegal.
