DEARBORN — Families of all different cultures converged on Ford Field park for a hometown tradition: the 29th annual Dearborn Homecoming event, which took place on the weekend of August 1-3.
Lines were long and excitement was in the air at the carnival section of Homecoming, while kids and their families also enjoyed the various events such as a Turbo Turtle race, historical re-enactments, sports competitions like a fishing derby, a classic car show and parade, and children’s crafts. Shuttles bussed in crowds from Dearborn High School and the West Village area.
Food was plentiful and the mood was jovial as patrons enjoyed the warm summer weather and music playing from live bands. Popular rocker Eddie Money was the biggest attraction, playing a Saturday night show that had people staking out spots earlier in the day.
The children’s play area featuring giant inflatable playscapes was also a big hit with the crowds. Masses of people set up blankets on hills and on the Ford Field grass as Homecoming wrapped up with a fireworks spectacular on Sunday night, the second straight night of fireworks at Homecoming.
