DEARBORN — The Dearborn Public Library is accepting donations for its “Food for Fines” program offered Nov. 1-17.
All donated items will be given to the Dearborn Firefighters for distribution to local families in need through the Burn Drive Food Cupboard.
Donations of non-perishable, non-expired food items will be rewarded with a $1 reduction in overdue library fines for every item donated.
All three Dearborn Public Library locations will accept canned or boxed food items in exchange for reductions in overdue library fines during this period.
There is no limit on the number of food items donated or to the amount of fines cleared.
Fines and fees for lost or damaged library items or library accounts in collection status are not eligible for the Food for Fines program.
Food items must be non-perishable, not expired and larger than single-serving size. Acceptable food items include canned soup; instant potatoes; pancake mix; canned juice; vegetables and fruit; rice; pasta; macaroni and cheese; cereal; oatmeal; peanut butter; tuna fish, etc. For more information, call 313-943-2330.
